Pumps

Pool pumps have been the workhorse of the pool industry from the beginning. In fact, with out a pump, there is no pool. Instead, you have a fish pond. In order to keep a fish pond looking like a swimming pool, the water needs to be circulated, and that's where the pump comes in. The pump in todays pools not only move water, they also perform the filtration, heating and chlorination of the water. Once the proper pump is installed, everything works great, for a while. Once the water has circulated through the filter, the filter will start to fill up and clog. This is normal, and the filter is actually working at it's best just before it clogs. (More about the filter problems below...) The reason I bring up the filter in the pump section? A typical service call is when the filter becomes so clogged with debris, the pump can not push water through it any more. The customer will call and say there is something wrong with the pump because the water is not flowing. Other problems that can cause a no flow or restriction problem: Clogged pump baskets, clogged skimmers, debris stuck in the pump impellar, a leak in front of the pump, debris in the line between the skimmer and the pump, plumbing too small, and many other strange occurances that happen to pumps. Basically, turn on the pump and see if there is water flow. If the pump won't run, there is either a problem with the electrical supply or the motor. If the pump comes on, but does not pump water, check for a restriction or clogged filter. If the pump problem can not be found, Please click here to schedule a repair. Pumps should be properly sized either to the pool or the existing plumbing. Some older pools should have the plumbing replaced. Older pumps were sized too big, wasted energy, and were very noisy. Todays pool pumps are quiet, energy efficient, and come in single speed, two speeds, and the new variable speed. The varibale speed pumps can save as much as 90% in energy, and are the answer to most pool pump problems. We can recommend the proper pool pump for you application.
